The Georgian College Athletic Department held their 44th annual varsity awards banquet on Thursday night at the Athletic Centre on the Barrie Campus.

Men’s golfer Colton Kalkanis earned the Cloutier Cup as Georgian’s Male Athlete of the Year for the second straight year.

Summer Bly returned to play women’s basketball at Georgian after a two year absence and picked up right where she left off.  Bly earned the Greer Trophy as Female Athlete of the Year for the second time, which she also earned in her last season in 2010-11. 

Rookie of the year awards were handed out on Thursday night. Female honours went to Chloe Wells & Cory Pond (golf) and Teq Zwarych (basketball) won male rookie of the year.

An incredible twenty-five student athletes received an OCAA All-Academic Award for achieving an average of at least 80% or higher while also representing the college as a varsity athlete.  Both Kalkanis and Bly were also awarded the Academic & Athletic Excellence Award for their accomplishments both as top athletes and top students in their programs.

Howard/Belcourt Award

-          The Howard/Belcourt Award is presented to an athlete that displays outstanding sportsmanship, dedication, commitment, attitude and leadership.

McKillican Trophy

-          The McKillican Trophy was established by Dr. Donald McKillican a former Student Service Director at Georgian College.  The award is for outstanding contribution to the Athletic Department by a student.
