The future of the main drag in Wasaga Beach will be decided on Tuesday afternoon.

Councillors will hold a ratification vote to determine whether the municipality will purchase seven properties, which include 25 commercial units along Beach Area One.

On April 21, the town voted five to two in favour of pursuing the purchase of the properties at a cost of $13.8 million. Mayor Brian Smith has said the purchase wouldn’t put taxpayers on the hook – using the town’s general reserves and a bank loan.

But deputy mayor Nina Bifolchi, one of two people to oppose the purchase, believes there could be additional costs.

The town will also be asked to approve a Request for Proposals for the operation of three bars located at Beach Area One.

The vote will be cast at a town council meeting at 7 p.m.
