Homes and businesses have been surrounded by hundreds of sandbags in Minden, now residents are holding their breath.
Town officials are suggesting it could be several more days before flood waters start to drop. So far about 100 homes have been voluntarily evacuated.
“Others may want to make the decision to do that,” says Reeve Brent Devolin. “We've seen a seven centimeter rise from yesterday morning. They're suggesting now, it may not be till week end or the weekend. So that's a significant change.”
More than a dozen roads are closed because of flooding. Even Loggers’ Bridge, which connects the two ends of the town, is now off limits to everyone.
People who have stayed are trying to keep strong.
“It is upsetting,” says Allan Arbuthnot. “Ii don't know how much water; lots of it anyway.”
The reeve says they have planned for the worst, but are still hoping waters don't rise too much more. He is reminding people across the area that it is wet everywhere, not just in the town.
“Not only are the water levels high in the Village of Minden, all of the reservoir lakes above us are full or over full. We’ve already set records, historic records on many of those lakes.”
The reeve is asking people who decide to leave their homes to let the township know so they are aware of whose still around.
