Eight local grocers, including stores in Barrie, will soon sell beer and cider.

The province announced on Tuesday that 76 more grocery stores will start selling alcohol by Canada Day of this year.

Locally, these stores include:

  • Barrie: Loblaws - Bayfield Street
  • Barrie: Walmart Superstore - Bayfield Street
  • Barrie: Walmart Superstore - Mapleview Drive
  • Midland: Foodland – Blam Beach Drive
  • Orangeville:  Sobeys – Riddle Road
  • Gravenhurst: Sobeys – Edward Street
  • Parry Sound – Sobeys – Pine Drive
  • Fenlon Falls – Sobeys – Lindsay Street

The decision to expand to these stores comes after a competitive bidding process held by the LCBO.

The province started selling six-packs of beer and cider in grocery stores two years ago, and already more than 130 grocers have stocked their shelves with suds.
