The purchase of seven properties along the waterfront in Wasaga Beach is being deemed as a beneficial buy.
According to Wasaga Beach MayorBrian Smith, the town’s waterfront was struggling to bring foot traffic in around this time last year.
“If you speak to the business owners, people of Wasaga Beach and the OPP they’ll tell you that the summer died after the bars closed,” says Mayor Brian Smith. “People just weren’t coming back to Wasaga Beach.”
Back in May the town voted five to two in favour of purchasing the propertiesand successfully became the landlord for the shops. In total 27 units were purchased as part of the deal and Smith says about 10 of those are still vacant.
“I believe with everything in me that we made the right decision. We're going to move forward, we got plans for the future, and we'll be talking with council more and more. Wasaga Beach is open for business and we are going to continue that.”
Smith says this summer has been a learning process and business is thriving with the help of warm weather and the town.
