A Barrie, Ont. police officer has been found guilty on Friday, June 21, 2013 with assaulting a man at the Bayfield Mall in 2010.

A judge has found Const. Jason Nevill guilty of assault causing bodily harm, fabricating evidence and obstructing justice.

The charges stem from an incident at the Bayfield Mall caught on surveillance tape in November 2010.

Barrie Police Chief Kimberley Greenwood says she “regrets the unfortunate incident” and called it “a rare incident”.

The chief also said Nevill will face additional charges under the Police Services Act because of the guilty verdict.

Nevill will be back in court on Oct. 17 for sentencing.

Meanwhie, Nevill's victim Jason Stern has launched a lawsuit seeking damages.
