Barrie man charged in string of business break-ins

A Barrie man faces multiple charges after being arrested in connection with a string of break-ins at local businesses earlier this week.

Police say officers arrested the suspect on Tuesday afternoon after a day-long investigation into three break-ins at plazas near Anne and Dunlop Streets.

According to police, someone broke into Mr. Sub on Anne Street, then Popeyes and Papa Johns, both located in a plaza at the corner of Anne and Dunlop Streets.

They say in each break-in, the suspect threw an object through the front door, smashing the glass to gain entry, and that he was gone before officers arrived.

Late Tuesday afternoon, police said officers located the suspect in the city's downtown area, allegedly wearing the same clothes the offender wore in surveillance footage from one of the businesses.

Police allege the accused is also responsible for a break-in on Sunday at St. Louis Bar and Grill on Duckworth Street.

The 52-year-old man faces four counts of break-and-enter.

Police say it was discovered the accused was wanted on a Canada-wide warrant for breaching the terms of his statutory release.

He was remanded into custody.
