Barrie Fair returns with midway rides, livestock shows, and demolition derby
The annual Barrie Fair returns to the Essa Agriplex in Thornton this weekend, with midway rides, livestock shows, tractor pulls, vendors, artisans and a demolition derby.
The fair, with a 171-year history, began as a modest one-day gathering in 1853. It has since grown into a multi-day, family-friendly event full of fun activities.

Along with a variety of animals, the fair features live entertainment, but the primary focus is connecting the community with the local food economy.
"This is a chance to reconnect with where your food comes from and the people who grow it for you," said Lisa Peterson, president of the Essa and District Agricultural Society.
General admission is $15 for ages five to 12. A family pass for two adults and two children is $36. Children four and under are free. Multi-day passes are also available.
The fair runs until Sunday at 6 p.m.
