It’s a moment young Samuel Farkas will never forget.
Patients and staff at the Turner Wellness Head Injury and Brian Care Centre in Barrie surprised Samuel with a birthday party.
“I went to get a coffee and when I came back surprise,” said Samuel who turned 12 on Tuesday. “I was very surprised almost like I won a million dollars.”
Samuel has been coming to the clinic for about a year to treat Prader–Willi syndrome. The rare genetic disorder affects many parts of his body.
“We’re not treating his condition medically, we’re correcting the positions of the bones, opening up the space, and he’s done so well,” said Dr. Roger Turner.
The treatment has helped improved Samuel’s walking, speech and mood.
“Samuel has endeared himself to all these people, he’s very friendly and gregarious,” said Dr. Turner. “He wants to talk to everybody, he couldn’t do that when he started.”
The birthday celebration was also an opportunity to recognize the many milestones Samuel has reached.
“We are just happy that he’s happy,” said Monika Farkasova, Samuel’s mom.
