Authorities tight-lipped on probe into police-involved shooting in Innisfil
The investigation into a police-involved shooting in a gated Innisfil community that critically injured one man and left another dead is ongoing, with authorities remaining tight-lipped on the details.
Ontario's Special Investigations Unit (SIU) reports two 19-year-old men were shot by four officers Thursday afternoon outside a Shoreview Drive home.
Neighbours tell CTV News the 19-year-olds are twin brothers, but officials have yet to confirm the identities of those involved.
The SIU says South Simcoe police officers responded to calls about a family dispute that afternoon, and when they arrived, the agency says there was an interaction involving the two young men, and the officers discharged their firearms.
The independent government agency invoked its mandate, effectively silencing the South Simcoe Police Service while it investigates what took place and whether the officer's actions were justified.
The South Simcoe Police Service has requested Ontario Provincial Police conduct a parallel investigation into the incident.
A post-mortem was done over the weekend on the young man, while the other 19-year-old is believed to be in stable condition at a Toronto area hospital after suffering life-threatening injuries.
While authorities won't confirm any identities, CTV News has learned local businessman Bill Hatton owns the home that was surrounded by yellow police tape last week.
In a 2023 social media post, Hatton is pictured standing between his two sons, congratulating them on their high school graduation.
