A Penetanguishene man accused of being impaired behind the wheel of a stolen vehicle faces several charges.

According to provincial police, an officer was called to a Midland parking lot Wednesday morning and found the driver slumped over the steering wheel.

Police say the officer woke the man, who then got out of the car and tried to take off.

"An impaired driving investigation was commenced at the scene, resulting in the seizure of an edged weapon and a quantity of drugs believed to be fentanyl and drug paraphernalia," alleged the OPP.

Police say the vehicle was reportedly stolen from a Midland residence earlier that morning.

A 31-year-old man is charged with impaired operation and vehicle theft, among other offences.

Police say he was also identified as a second person wanted in an ongoing break-in and theft investigation at a Midland restaurant from Sunday.

The accused was further charged with break-and-enter, theft and mischief.
