Lucky dates and ages on a Lotto Max ticket won a Wasaga Beach man nearly $70,000.

George Mavrogiannis, a retired restaurateur, says he has been playing the lottery for about 30 years and has played Lotto Max since its inception in 2009.

“It was shortly after midnight when I checked the winning numbers on the OLG app,” said Mavrogiannis while visiting the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto to claim his winnings of $68,659.

“I was looking back and forth from the phone to my ticket. I knew the numbers I played and couldn’t believe what I was seeing.”

Mavrogiannis woke his wife to tell her the good news.

“At first, she thought something was wrong, but once I told her the good news, she was shocked. It definitely woke her up,” he said.

“Winning is almost euphoric! Honestly, I think I’m still processing it,” George said.

With his July 12 windfall, George plans to embark on a cruise and upgrade vehicles.

The winning ticket was purchased at the West River Convenience on River Road in Wasaga Beach.
