Two 23-year-old men have been charged in connection with the murder of one of their neighbours in Kearney, near Huntsville.
Five days after 85-year-old Dolores White died after being brutally attacked in her home, OPP have now charged 23-year-old Kearney man Declan Letters with first degree murder and 23-year-old Brock Gould of McMurrich-Monteith with accessory after the fact to murder.
Police have been searching all over the small town this week looking for clues. Police have been inside White's home and it remains under police guard.
Investigators are waiting to get permission to look inside a home just down the road from White’s. Residents say Letters and Gould often hung out there.
Police tell CTV News they were able to make the arrests and lay charges thanks to numerous tips that came from people in the small town.
“People in their community helping with tips, phone calls, and walking into the detachment with information we received on the streets as well,” says Const. Louise Maki. “Everything that we received was a huge part of our investigation.”
People now say they are happy to hear police have made arrests, though many are still stunned.
“I was shocked and I thought oh my God that is horrible for anybody young or old for that to happen to them in their own home,” says Beverley Wilkinson.
The two accused are being held at the jail in Penetanguishene. Both men are scheduled to be back in court April 17.
