Snow Valley Ski Resort opens its doors: What to expect on day one

Snow Valley Ski Resort has officially geared up for another season of winter sports.

After receiving some wicked weather over the week, with Environment Canada issuing a blizzard and snow squall warning for several areas across Simcoe County, the recent blast means snowboarding season has slid into the winter itinerary for people across the region.

This summer, Snow Valley invested $1 million into snow making enhancements, kicking off the start of snowmaking operations.

“Our hardworking snowmaking team has been seizing every opportunity to collaborate with Mother Nature, ensuring prime conditions for all our guests,” the Snow Valley team stated in a release.

Snow Valley Ski Resort has been operating since 1952, seeing over 200,000 annual visitors. To celebrate this season's launch, the resort is offering open-to-close lift tickets for $49.

The ski hills are open for skiing and snowboarding from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Last year, the first official day of operation came later as the mild temperatures swarmed Simcoe County.

Snow Valley Ski Resort isn’t the only resort open for business, Mount St. Louis, Horseshoe Resort, and Blue Mountain Ski Resort in the Blue Mountains have welcomed back skiers for some fun on the slopes.

If you are looking for the best time to kick off your winter fun, Environment Canada says a 40 percent chance of flurries are expected late into Sunday afternoon, with more flurries on the way later in the week.
