The Town of Collingwood is taking steps to make its streets safer by lowering the speed limit in school and community safety zones.

Council announced a reduced speed limit of 30 kilometres per hour "to ensure consistency, which may result in a positive impact on driver behaviour."

The 30 km/h limit will apply within 150 meters of school properties, where students and parents are more likely to be present.

Enhanced pavement markings will accompany the reduced speed limits in school zones to highlight these zones.

Additionally, the town is adding new community safety zones, including areas around Pretty River Academy, National Ski Academy, and Riverside Park.

Highway 26 West in front of the Pretty River Academy will not see a reduction in its speed limit "due to it being a highway."
