Secret drug lab discovered in Walkerton

Police have dismantled a clandestine drug laboratory in Walkerton

Provincial police were called to investigate an assault involving a firearm on September 9. Police say the accused and the victim are known to each other, and it was believed to be an isolated incident.

Two days later, police executed a search warrant at an address in Walkerton.

During the investigation of the building, a clandestine drug laboratory was discovered.

Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) specialty units, in collaboration with assisting agencies, safely dismantled the lab.

Police seized a .22 calibre handgun, a quantity of suspected MDMA, precursors for drug production, as well as several pieces of production equipment.

The combined estimated street value of the seized controlled substances is about $25,000.

Due to the investigation, a 51-year-old Walkerton resident has been charged with:

  • Two counts of assault with a weapon,
  • Two counts of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose,
  • Point firearm,
  • Use a firearm while committing an offence,
  • Intimidation - use or threatens use of violence,
  • Mischief under $5,000,
  • Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking,
  • Produce a schedule I substance,
  • Possession of anything for use in the production of a Schedule I substance,

The accused was remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear in the Walkerton Ontario Court of Justice on Friday.

Specialty units and assisting agencies included South Bruce OPP Major Crimes Unit, West Region Tactics and Rescue Unit, West Region Community Street Crime Team, Clandestine Laboratory Investigative Response Team, Urban Search and Rescue Chemical Biological Radiological Nuclear and Explosives Response Team, Walkerton Fire Department, Health Canada, Ontario Fire Marshall's Office, and Bruce County Paramedic Services.
