The all-clear has been given after a possible explosive was removed from outside of the Days Inn in Owen Sound.
Members from CFB Borden’s explosive disposal unit removed what was believed to be a grenade at the hotel on Sixth Street East on Friday afternoon.
The military ordnance was located inside a room at the hotel by an employee just before noon and moved it outside. The hotel was evacuated as a precaution, but police have since given the all-clear.
“All information we had received – the size, weight, colour and markings on the object – were all consistent with a real hand grenade, which is why we took all necessary precautions to ensure everyone’s safety," said Insp. Stephen MacKinnon.
Officials have taken the item back to CFB Borden to determine whether the grenade was fake or real. Investigators will also try to determine how the item ended up in the hotel. but say there does not appear to be any malicious intent.
