OPP targets large trucks travelling through 'No Truck Route' following community concerns

Provincial police spent two hours on Wednesday targeting commercial trucks travelling through Bolton in violation of the town’s No Truck Route.

Police say officers stopped eight trucks and found two of the trucks didn’t have proper inspection completed or documented, and one driver was on a mobile device, while two others failed to buckle up.
They say of the trucks inspected, six were found to be on local deliveries and were permitted to carry on, however, officers discovered the other two vehicles in violation of the no heavy truck restrictions.
Police say the drivers blamed their GPS for taking them through town, but despite this, both were charged with disobeying the No Truck Route.
The OPP confirmed there are several posted signs notifying truckers to take the designated routes around the town’s core.
Earlier this month, a community meeting highlighted concerns around trucks on town roads, in response to a fatal collision involving a commercial vehicle in September.
