The theft of an unlocked minvan from a Penetanguishene business was the start of a series of criminal investigations by Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) over the course of the Thanksgiving weekend.

A Honda Odyssey was taken by an unknown person at 5:37 p.m. from a parking lot on Fuller Avenue in Penetanguishene on Friday.

Police reviewed the parking lot surveillance footage and identified a suspect.

Later that night between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m., an unlocked Sierra pickup truck was stolen from a residence in Clearview Township.

A few hours later, it was involved in a fail-to-remain two-vehicle crash on Simcoe County 91 in Clearview.

At 11:13 a.m. Saturday, the suspect returned to the Penetanguishene area in the stolen Sierra pickup and once identified, fled the scene driving in a dangerous manner through a business' parking lot onto Fuller Avenue.

A 33-year-old man of no-fixed-address was arrested at a home in Wasaga Beach and held for bail to face the following charges:

  • Theft of motor vehicle
  • Two counts of possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000
  • Two counts of failing to comply with probation order
  • Operation while prohibited dangerous operation
  • Flight from peace officer
  • Mischief under $5,000
  • Resisting a peace officer

Anyone with knowledge of drug or property-related investigations is asked to contact the OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
