Dunlop Street West has reopened after a woman was struck by a vehicle and seriously injured on Tuesday morning.

Barrie police say an eastbound vehicle was waiting to turn left into a plaza in the area of Dunlop and Hart Drive, at around 8:40 a.m.

As the light turned yellow, investigators say the vehicle and a westbound SUV entered the intersection – causing the driver of the SUV to swerve and hit a 63-year-old woman. According to police, the vehicle that was turning then left the scene.

The woman was taken to Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre with serious injuries, where she was airlifted to a Toronto hospital.

“We do not know what that other vehicle was, who was driving it, even the description of the vehicle,” says Const. Angela Butler. “We are treating this as a failure to remain right now, although those vehicles didn’t collide with each other, there is an accident here and a female, who has life threating injuries.”

Dunlop was closed for several hours, but has since reopened.

Anyone with information is being asked to contact police or Crime Stoppers.
