A 63-year-old woman who was struck by a vehicle on Tuesday in Barrie has died from her injuries.

Barrie police say an eastbound vehicle was waiting to turn left into a plaza in the area of Dunlop and Hart Drive, at around 8:40 a.m.

As the light turned yellow, investigators say the vehicle and a westbound SUV entered the intersection – causing the driver of the SUV to swerve and hit the woman.

According to police, the vehicle that was turning then left the scene.

The woman was taken to Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre with serious injuries, where she was airlifted to a Toronto hospital where she passed away.

Police are continuing their investigation and looking to speak to the driver of the vehicle that was seen by witnesses turning into the plaza at the time of the accident.
