Environment Canada has called off an extreme cold weather warning for the region, as temperatures get set to warm up, ever so slightly.

The weather authority cancelled the warning on Monday morning, a day after temperatures dipped to a bone-chilling -40 C with the wind chill in some parts of central Ontario.

Environment Canada says it was -28.5 C on Sunday morning in Barrie – the record cold on that day was set in 1987 at -29 C.

Temperatures are expected to rise slightly over the next two days. Officials predict the high on Tuesday to be -9 C and -10 C on Wednesday. However, temperatures will dip down once again on Thursday.
