Nearly 700 Enbridge customers in Cookstown are still without natural gas.

Technicians are going door-to-door in an effort to manually relight equipment for 694 customers across the community.

A controlled natural gas release will also take place to clear the lines of any residual air. Residents may smell gas, during that process.

Enbridge shutoff gas to the entire Cookstown community after a six inch gas line was ruptured on Wednesday. The line was struck by construction crews in the area of County Road 27, near Highway 89.

No one was injured, but 20 homes were evacuated. Those residents were allowed back home late Wednesday night.

Enbridge says the process will take several hours to complete.
