More than 40 Cookstown residents were allowed back into their homes Wednesday night after a gas line was struck earlier in the day.

Construction workers ruptured the six inch gas line while working in the area of County Road 27 and Highway 89. No one was injured, but 20 homes were evacuated.

Innisfil Fire Chief Jon Pegg tells CTV News that the evacuated homes have been tested and are safe for residents to return.

Pegg also says gas has been shut off to all of Cookstown for the night and Enbridge crews will back on scene on Thursday to repair and restore the line.
