Man charged with 2nd-degree murder after alleged stabbing at Newmarket apartment complex

Police charged a 56-year-old man with second-degree murder after officers conducted a welfare check at an apartment complex in Newmarket.

York Regional Police say officers found a man who had been stabbed when they checked the apartment in the area of Timothy and Prospect Streets on Monday morning.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say the Office of the Chief Coroner has yet to confirm the man's identity.

The same day, officers arrested the accused, of no fixed address.

Police say this is an isolated incident, adding the victim and suspect were known to each other.
