High bacteria counts have shut down another beach in Orillia.

The city received notice from the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit that Moose Beach should have a swimming advisory due to a higher-than-normal bacteria count.

There aren’t many places left to swim, with the J.B. Tudhope Memorial Park and Couchiching Beach Park both advising the public not to swim at their beaches.

The health unit issues a swimming advisory when bacterial levels climb too high.

An advisory is a warning, but it is not a beach closure. Swimmers should be aware of the risk of developing minor irritations and infections.

The health unit advises people who choose to swim to avoid ducking their head under or swallowing the water.

Lifeguards are not on duty during a swim advisory, and swimmers are warned to swim at their own risk.

Bacteria counts are based on several different factors, with the most common being rain, wind and waterfowl.
