First public high school in Wasaga Beach one step closer to reality
The Town of Wasaga Beach has never been home to a high school, with roughly 1,000 students bused to neighbouring schools, but that will soon change.
The Simcoe County District School Board shifted its list of priorities to make constructing a high school in Wasaga Beach one step closer to reality.

During a board meeting Wednesday night, the proposal for the beachfront town's first-ever public high school was elevated from 12th to second place on the board's capital priorities list.
The decision follows the provincial government's pledge in the spring to offer funding for a kindergarten to Grade 12 campus for the Simcoe Muskoka Catholic District School Board in Wasaga Beach.
It is expected to open in 2027.
"One year ago, the Town of Wasaga Beach went from having no high schools to now, possibly, having two high schools. This is what you get when you have an active council that persists, insists, and continues to advocate for the needs and best interests of kids and families in Wasaga Beach," said Mayor Brian Smith.
The province has not yet approved funding for a public high school in Wasaga Beach.
