A 39-year-old man of no fixed address accused of seriously injuring a Barrie police officer is facing several criminal charges.

Police say the officer responded to a report about a man armed with a knife at a Bayfield Street fast food eatery early Sunday afternoon.

They say the officer was attempting to take the man into custody when he was injured.

The officer was taken to the hospital, where police say he was treated for lacerations from an edged weapon and later released.

The accused has since been charged with weapons-related offences, plus assault with intent to resist, and four counts of failing to comply with his probation.
