County of Simcoe expanding shelter spaces to provide warmth during cold winter months

Share

With the cold winter months looming, the County of Simcoe is creating additional space in shelters to offer warmth for those without a place to call home.

The County's 'alternate spaces strategy' allows shelters to expand the number of indoor spaces for anyone seeking a bed or warm location.

"It opens up opportunities during months when individuals living unhoused are most at risk to help protect their safety and security, including through the alternate spaces activation strategy and warming centres," a release from the County states.

All County social and community service offices will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. daily for people to get in out of the cold.

The County will announce locations and details of warming centres across the region in the coming week.

Anyone in need of shelter or warmth can call 211 to connect with a nearby shelter.
