YMCA hosts newcomers information event

For many new to Canada, understanding the language is just one obstacle. The Barrie YMCA wants to help new Canadians begin to understand the many transitions.

Introducing newcomers to Barrie and all the services and amenities available is what the goal was today in the East Bayfield Community Centre parking lot.

Representatives from schools, clubs and emergency services were there to offer some insight, fun and treats.

"When I first came to Canada, I was a lost person," said Naina Sharma, "It felt like an alien land – it wasn't like home.

"But now, I'm very proudly Canadian. Because slowly you understand that everything happens here very systematically. And you start realizing there are things and there are services available," Sharma said.

The YMCA offers a number of programs and information about our area so that everyone can be made aware of what services there are available.
