Woman charged after driving in oncoming traffic: OPP

A 78-year-old female driver is facing charges after reportedly driving into oncoming traffic in Wasaga Beach on Christmas Eve.

According to Huronia West OPP, officers responded to reports of a black sedan driving in the oncoming lane of traffic and striking snowbanks on River Road West.

Officers stopped the suspect vehicle at around 9 p.m. and began an impaired driving investigation.

The driver was subsequently arrested and transported to the detachment for further testing.

The 78-year-old woman from Wasaga Beach was charged with operation while impaired by alcohol and operation while impaired 80-plus.

She was released and is scheduled for a future court date. Her licence was suspended for 90 days, and her vehicle was impounded for seven days.
