A Midland woman is facing several charges after police say she bit an officer while being arrested for an alleged armed confrontation.

Officers with the Southern Georgian Bay OPP detachment responded to Borsa Lane in Midland on Thursday afternoon for reports of a woman with an edged weapon having stolen a wallet.

Police say officers quickly located the suspect nearby on Bourgeois Lane and that while attempting to arrest her, an officer was bitten.

They say further investigation revealed that property belonging to the complainant had been taken from a parked vehicle and found nearby.

The 33-year-old woman faces criminal charges, including armed robbery, assault with a weapon, resisting an officer, possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000, possession of an identity document, and possession of a credit card.

She was later released from custody with a future court date scheduled to answer to the charges.
