Warmer, dryer than usual fall predicted for Simcoe County

Simcoe County and Muskoka will have a warmer and dryer fall than usual.

Environment Canada predicts above-average temperatures for the region over the next three months.

The national weather agency reports the second half of September into the first part of October will have elevated daytime highs for the Barrie area with very little rain.

"Temperatures are in the high 20s. They're about six or seven degrees warmer than you'd expect for this time of the year," said Environment Canada senior climatologist David Phillips. "I don't think you could write the final chapter on summery-like weather."

The precipitation trend appears more uncertain toward mid-October and onward.

"Precipitation is always a little tough to get. We're saying it's going to be drier than normal. So, can you imagine warmer and drier? It's like an atmospheric gift that nature's going to give us because we know what's coming ... winter. But hey, let's worry about that later," Phillips added.

On Wednesday, daytime temps will rise to 26C in the Barrie area, feeling more like 30C with the humidex.

The hot and humid trend will continue for at least the next week, with temperatures predicted to climb into the mid-to-high 20s.
