Passenger killed after car crashes into utility pole: Mission RCMP

A senior died after the car she was riding in crashed into a utility pole Wednesday afternoon, police say.

The Mission RCMP says officers were called to Sylvester Road near Cascade Ridge Drive in Durieu, a community outside the city, around 4:30 p.m. for a single-vehicle crash.

“Officers arrived to find that a grey Mitsubishi Outlander had left the roadway and collided with a utility pole,” a Thursday statement from the detachment reads.

“First responders worked to extricate the female passenger, who was unconscious and had sustained serious injuries.”

Police say despite the efforts of first responders, the 69-year-old died at the scene.

The driver, meanwhile, received minor injuries in the crash and was taken to hospital but has since been released, according to Mounties.

Collision analysts and traffic police are still investigating the cause of the crash, the detachment said, adding “there have been no arrests or charges at this time.”
