Drugs, weapons seized after driver 'could not remember' her name during B.C. traffic stop

A 39-year-old woman was arrested after an impaired driving check in Fort St. John earlier this month, but not for impaired driving.

The driver, a Fort St. John resident, gave the officer who stopped her a driver's licence, but when he asked her to tell him her name, she "could not remember," according to a news release issued by BC Highway Patrol on Tuesday.

"As a result, even though the driver was not impaired, she was arrested and the vehicle was searched," the release reads.

During the search, police found a loaded "ghost gun," pepper spray, "almost $2,000 in cash" and "suspected illicit drugs."

The traffic stop occurred just before 11 p.m. on Dec. 13 at the intersection of 86 Street and 85 Avenue, BCHP said.

The driver was arrested and held in custody for a court appearance, then released, according to police, who said they would not share her name until charges against her are approved by Crown counsel.
