Two young boys, aged 21 months and 7 years old, have died after being hit by a truck in Parry Sound on Friday morning.

The boys and their mother were struck by the pick-up truck just after 10:30 a.m. at the intersection of Seguin Street and James Street.

Police think the truck was heading southbound on James and was attempting to turn east on Seguin at the time of the collision. Police still don't know if the truck had an advanced green at the time.

Police say life-saving efforts were performed by emergency services at the scene and the three were transported to the West Parry Sound Health Centre.

The two boys were pronounced dead at the health centre. The mother received minor injuries and is expected to be released on Friday night.

There is a countdown clock at the lights. Police do not know if it was working at the time, although it was operational Friday afternoon as police investigated

Police say the boys and their mother were from the Parry Sound area.

The female driver of the truck was not injured but is being treated for shock.

A small memorial has been set up at the scene. Balloons, flowers and teddy bears have been dropped off by total strangers wishing to send the families their best.

The intersection was closed most of the day while police investigated. It reopened just after 5 p.m. Friday afternoon.
