Truck driver clocked at nearly 2x speed limit

A commercial truck driver was stopped for allegedly travelling nearly twice the speed limit through a Community Safety Zone in the Town of Caledon Saturday morning.

Police say the truck driver was travelling south on Highway 10 at 80 kilometres per hour in the 50 kilometres per hour zone south of Charleston Side Road. He was stopped by an officer who was conducting speed enforcement in the area.
"The residents are quite concerned with the speeds of vehicles through the village due to the high traffic and the presence of a McDonald’s and Tim Hortons at the intersection," said Provincial Constable Ian Michel from Caledon OPP in an email to CTV News. "There is a school in the area on Kennedy Road, but because there are numerous residences on Highway 10 in that area as well, it has been designated a Community Safety Zone."
The 48-year-old truck driver from Oshawa was charged with speeding in a Community Safety Zone and received a $450 fine.
"30 kilometres per hour over the speed limit is never to be tolerated and doing that speed in a large commercial motor vehicle is even worse," added Michel. "We conduct speed enforcement on Highway 10 on a daily basis and motorists should expect strict enforcement if stopped."
