Train whistles silenced at 3 Barrie GO line stops

The long, lonely sound of a deafening train whistle will no longer disturb residents of King Township.
Safety equipment and anti-whistling upgrades have been installed at three Barrie GO Line crossings.
In cooperation between King Township, York Region and Metrolinx, three stops at Station Road, 15th Sideroad and Dufferin Street, have seen noise pollution quelled by newly implemented safety features.

Transport Canada does allow alternatives to train whistling in urbanized areas, as long as safety measures are installed.
To that end, pedestrian warning signals with automated arms will be in use, tactile walking surface indicators, sidewalk signage, painted pathways, stop bars on pavement and additional fencing have all been put in place at these three locations.
