Officers discovered several damaged vehicles and debris along the roadway when they arrived, but say the accused was gone.
Police say the officers followed the trail of debris to quickly locate the suspect truck.
They say the driver was still inside the vehicle and taken into custody.
He is charged with impaired driving, failing to remain, and driving with an open container of liquor.
As a result of the charges, the Angus man's licence was suspended for 90 days, and the truck was impounded for seven days at the owner's expense.
"The OPP reminds motorists that consuming any amount of alcohol or drugs before driving is unacceptable. If you suspect someone is driving under the influence, please report it immediately," police noted.
