Scary moments for 40 students after the bus they were on caught fire on Highway 400 in southern Georgian Bay on Friday afternoon.

The tour bus caught fire started in the southbound lanes of the highway at Hidden Glen Road.

The students were aged 12 to 16 and were on a school trip. There were also three adults and one bus driver on the bust at the time. One student was taken to hospital as a precaution.   

Students were taken to a nearby campground waiting for another bus to come and get them.

Police say a bus tire blew and caught fire. The driver managed to pullover and got everyone off the bus safely.

Police say the bus was from Trentway-Wager Tour Company.

Both southbound lanes of the highway were closed at Crooked Bay Road while police investigated. The left lane has since reopened.
