HALIBURTON, Ont. - A teenaged boy is facing charges after police say a large house party north of Peterborough left $25,000 in damage after rowdy partiers "trashed" the home, unbeknownst to the owner.

Provincial police say about 150 people showed up at the party, which was held without the knowledge or consent of the homeowner on May 17 in Highlands East, in Haliburton County.

It's alleged that some of the partiers got into the home by breaking in through a window and then opening the front door, allowing unlimited access for the large gathering.

Police say many of the mostly young people in attendance were unaware they were committing an offence by being in the residence.

An investigation led to evidence, including DNA, being recovered at the scene and sent for analysis.

A 16-year-old boy from Minden, Ont., was arrested and charged with mischief over $5,000 and break and enter.

Earlier this month, a party advertised on social media brought about 2,000 people to an unfinished mansion in Brampton, which led to about $70,000 in damage and several arrests.
