South Simcoe Police say a 15-year-old girl has died as the result of injuries suffered on a soccer field in Bradford Wednesday afternoon.

The incident involved two 15-year-old girls who were playing soccer at the Portuguese Cultural Centre off Canal Road.

Police say one of the girls was seriously injured when she became trapped under the crossbar of a large steel framed net.

The girl's friend called 911 and South Simcoe Police and Bradford Fire responded. She was treated at the scene and transported to an area hospital by ambulance where she died.

South Simcoe Police's Forensic Identification Unit and the Traffic & Marine Unit gathered evidence until late Wednesday evening.

The Criminal Investigation Bureau is assisting the Coroner's Office with the investigation. Foul play is not suspected.
