The man wanted in connection with an assault that left a person in hospital in serious condition has turned himself in.

South Simcoe Police say tips helped them identify the man, who they then contacted yesterday. The 27-year-old Newmarket man then turned himself in last night.

One person remains in hospital in Toronto with a life-threatening head injury after the fight, which happened outside the Eclipse Bar and Restaurant in Bradford on Sunday.

Witnesses say they heard a commotion and rushed to see what was happening.

“I heard bottles smashing, people screaming, commotion,” says Dan Haggerty, who lives across the street and rushed over. “There was a guy on the ground, blood coming out of his mouth every time he tried to breath. My buddy and I rolled him over. Hopefully he's OK.”

Police say the suspect was at Eclipse and was asked to leave by staff after causing a disturbance. He went out the back entrance and then attacked the victim in the parking lot. He was last seen leaving through the parking lot.

“We don't believe it was targeted,” says South Simcoe Police Sgt. Brad Reynolds. “It was sort of the case where people were out at the back and this person was agitated and somehow they became involved in these assaults.”

Another man tried to stop the suspect and he was also injured but has been released from hospital. Investigators don't believe a weapon was used.

The Newmarket man has been charged with aggravated assault and assault causing bodily harm. He was held for a bail hearing today.
