Student charged with explosives-related offence in Kawartha Lakes

Provincial police in Kawartha Lakes charged a student following a report that someone brought an unknown substance into a school.
According to police, officers received the information on Wednesday and officers with the Kawartha Lakes and Haliburton Highlands OPP detachments, plus members of the local police service immediately began investigating the situation.

“Out of an abundance of caution, members from the OPP Explosive Disposal Unit have attended the school and confirmed that there is no threat to public safety,” the OPP release stated on Friday.
Police say the investigation is ongoing, but that "as of right now" the teen from Minden Hills has been charged with explosive - making or possessing for an unlawful purpose. It's unclear if more charges will be laid.
The teen’s identity is protected under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
