South Simcoe Police is looking for a 57-year-old man who they say uses online dating sites to meet women and then defrauds them.

Police say after Enrico Cagnotti meets the women online, he enters into a relationship with them and allegedly defrauds them through various means.

Cagnotti has a number of aliases, including Enrico Depaolis, Juiseina Cagnotti, Guesppa Depaolis, Rick Cagnotti, Eric Paolis, Rick Gambino, Franco Cesaretti, Enrico Paulozza, and Enrico Pirolo.

“We have a local victim”, says South Simcoe Police Detective Constable Ivan Coulter in a release. “We believe there may be others. This man has been running this scam for several years, and he’s currently wanted by police in Toronto and Peel.”

Police say Cagnotti often poses as a businessman from Italy, and drives a flashy rental car he passes off as his own. Detectives say he’s not licenced to drive, and even tried to sell the rental car to a victim’s son.

Cagnotti is wanted by South Simcoe Police on charges of Fraud Under $5,000 and breach of probation.

Although victims of romantic scams are often embarrassed to come forward, police are asking anyone with information on Cagnotti or believes they may have been a victim of fraud to come forward.
