A large snake that was found on the roof of a Barrie home has been handed over to a reptile rescue organization.

The 5’ python was found on the roof of a Dalton Street residence on Saturday by someone who was just passing through the area. Bylaw officers were called to the area and were able to successfully capture the snake.

Officers spent the weekend trying to locate the owner, but no one came forward.  The snake has since been handed over to an organization that specializes in reptile rescues.

Police say it’s illegal to own a python or boa constrictor in the City of Barrie. Anyone caught breaking the bylaw could face a $490 fine.
