Ski resort preparing for the season ahead
An unseasonably mild fall in Simcoe County has put any hopes for an early start to the ski season on hold, still, one local resort has its sights set on the slopes.
Blue Mountain Resort hopes to kick off its season in mid-December, provided Mother Nature cooperates.
The resort needs temperatures to dip to -2C or colder to maintain the slopes, but regardless, teams are hard at work preparing for the upcoming season.
In spring 2023, the team at Blue started a multi-million-dollar snowmaking upgrade project to make more snow faster.

An Environment Canada official has said we are headed into an La Nina winter, meaning more snowfall for the province.
“That’s the kind of forecast we love at a ski resort,” noted Tara Lovell, public relations with Blue Mountain Resort.
While the Collingwood ski resort is optimistic it will open by December 12, that call is ultimately up to Mother Nature.
Weather specialists expect colder temperatures to arrive later in the month. The almanac suggests daytime highs two degrees above normal for much of December, reaching around -2C on average.
Last year, Blue Mountain Resort opened for the season on December 7. Horseshoe Resort, just outside of Barrie, was the first to open the 2023/24 season on December 1.
