BARRIE, ONT. -- The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit is reporting 86 cases of COVID-19 between Friday and Monday.

The region has seen a total of 1,720 cases since the pandemic began.

Right now, 214 cases are active with eight people in hospital.

Fifty people with the virus have died in Simcoe Muskoka; 33 of them residents of long-term care homes in Barrie, Bradford, and Beeton.

One more resident of Simcoe Manor has recovered from COVID, with one resident still in hospital as part of the Beeton facility's ongoing outbreak.

Sunset Manor 's COVID cases-- one staff member and one resident--are holding steady.

The health unit reported Monday that a staff member at Holland Gardens in Bradford has tested positive for coronavirus.

There are currently 13 cases associated with the Simcoe County District School Board.

Five cases are tied to an outbreak at Nottawasaga Pines Secondary School in Angus where five classrooms are closed. Cases were also added Monday at Warnica Public School in Barrie and Bradford District High School.

Officials at Barrie's Sperling Drive COVID-19 assessment centre report an increase in people asking to be testing. Extra staff may be brought in to handle the extra volume.

York Region added 132 new cases on Monday. Grey Bruce reported three new infections after a pandemic high of 10 on Sunday.
