School bus struck moments before passenger drop-off

A school bus carrying two dozen students was hit from behind.

The incident occurred in the 800 block of 16th Avenue East, Owen Sound on Monday at approximately 8:30 a.m.

Owen Sound Police Service officers determined the bus was attempting to complete a left-hand turn to enter the parking lot of École East Ridge Community School when it was hit from behind by a 2017 Dodge Ram truck.

Fortunately, all 24 students riding on the bus and both vehicle drivers were unharmed.

Multiple air-bags were deployed in the truck as a result of the impact, and the Dodge had to be towed from the scene.

The driver of the pickup was charged with careless driving.
