The Kinette Club of Wasaga Beach is hosting its Paint the Town Red ribbon campaign to raise money for My Friend’s House shelter, which supports women suffering from domestic violence in Simcoe County.

A series of events are planned, beginning with local firefighters turning Wasaga’s main beach strip into a toll road on September 1 so people can contribute, said Kim Burt of the Kinettes.

“They can make a donation and tie the red ribbon in their hair or on their purse or belt hook to show their support,” Burt said.

The main kick-off of the month-long campaign will include a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the Rec Plex Oakview Meeting Room on September 7, followed by a pancake breakfast hosted by the Kinette Club of Wasaga Beach.

“We will also have our first responders, OPP, firefighters and paramedics on hand to meet and greet, and we’ll have face painting, games, and such for everyone to take part,” she said.

Burt said 20 boxes will be placed in businesses around the community to collect donations for each of the 5,000 red ribbons available during September.
